What a difference just a few days brings to the Arbour – we’ve gone from the naturalistic planting popular at RHS Chelsea, dominated by shades of green with delicate touches of colour brought in through subtle planting - to a bright and fun planting scheme that will catch any child’s interest in the garden!
Children’s Gardening Week aims to inspire children to love growing plants. We think a great way to do this is to pique their interest first. What could be better than bold and bright plants – a cacophony of colours – much as they might see in some of their favourite books, cartoons and movies? Think Dr Seuss’ The Lorax, Sesame Street, or Tree-Fu Tom! Our #InspirationArbour has Dahlias, Lillies, Passiflora and Hydrangea – in bright yellows, reds, pinks and blues.
Visit National Children’s Gardening Week website for inspiration of what to do with your children or grandchildren: https://www.childrensgardeningweek.co.uk/fun-things-to-do/ There’re a few ideas in amongst our display too – why not plant up some old wellies together? Or sow some child-friendly and favourite seeds? Or have a session painting rocks to hide or display in your garden? Or make your own fun plant labels?
Come along and look at the #InspirationArbour at Rutland Garden Centre, at Ashwell, near Oakham before it changes….
